Hey, I am so happy that you’re here!
I’m Megan and I’m a literacy specialist, an experienced teacher, and a busy momma!
I'm here to empower YOU by supporting your child on their reading journey.
I 100% believe that learning to read should and can be fun! And I am here to share all of my play-based, low-stress, effective phonics activities.
I taught for over 10 years (as both a homeroom teacher and as a reading interventionist at both public and charter schools). I LOVED teaching, my classroom was truly my happy place.
How did I get here??
Why Play-Based Reading?
As a mom and a background in early childhood education, I know your child needs to play. Play does so many amazing things for a child’s brain. For me, play in childhood is non-negotiable.
This is their time to be a child. BUT as a reading specialist who is well-versed in how your child learns to read, I also know how important it is to start laying a solid reading foundation.
Luckily, I have a huge passion for making learning to read insanely FUN for kids!
Here is the honest truth:
There's a lot of information on the internet, competing approaches to reading, and traditional classrooms do not have the bandwidth to help with every single child.
I aim to help digest all of this information and pour my expertise into creating tools that empower YOU to build a strong reading foundation for YOUR child.
But year after year, I saw so many little lights go out, 6-year-olds who hated reading already, kids not getting the support they needed, having to follow ONE curriculum for 30+ unique kids that di did NOT support how children actually learn to read, not being able to do what was best for each of my students and a school system I just could not fix.
My heart simply hurt…and I left.
I still love teaching and tutor privately but now I am dedicated to creating a space where children’s needs come first. I get to help empower parents to take control of their child’s learning and not leave it in the schools hands.
What exactly is my expertise?
I have a Master of Arts as a Reading Specialist and bachelor’s degrees in Early Childhood Education and Human Development & Family Studies, and am Orton-Gillingham trained. With over 15 years of experience in education, I have been a classroom teacher, a K-8th grade literacy interventionist, and I have developed an early learning program (designed and set up an entire daycare center!) for a nonprofit.
