Heart Word/Red Word/High Frequency Word Practice Sheets - Orthographic Mapping
These practice sheets help students build confidence and practice with orthographic mapping high-frequency words.
These sheets also support letter formation. Using houses facilitates letter formation. I use the keywords upstairs, downstairs, and basement when guiding students where letters live in the house.
This set includes Orton-Gillingham-aligned dictation paper that works well when introducing new red words/ heart words. Even if you do not specifically use OG, you can use this resource!
Includes:
Practice Sheets for 96 words!
Each sheet provides:
orthographic mapping dots for each word (some words include a key picture)
a large spot to write the new word (large enough to put a screen behind to make it multisensory!)
a spot to say and write the word 3 times
a reminder to arm tap the word 3 times
a decodable sentence
CUPS checklist
Words Included: I, a, see, on, and, on, has, the, of, is, no, for, in, to, said, like, go, his, her, get, put, she, he, can, want, will, help, yes, with, too, are, out, they, was, saw, look, now, our, down, from, them, my, be, house, when, have, me, we, you, could, one, good, would, goes, play, some, went, give, so, by, or, day, off, there, take, lake, made, all, ball, park, who, should, could, here, were, where, find, going, home, back, left, wanted, what, how, took, don't, read, looked, do, sign, before, night, under, their, around, start, won
Preparation is a snap... All you need to do is print and you're ready to go!
Please Note:
A LOT of the words ARE completely decodable but are skills that my learners have not learned yet!
Example: like
The silent e is making the i say its long sound. However, at this point in my instruction (I follow the Recipe of Reading scope and sequence) my learners have not yet gone over silent e. This is a great time to QUICKLY introduce this concept and let my learners know we will practice this skill in the future.
What educators are saying
This along with the other resources made by the author, I use daily in class. We have just started but they are remembering their words better with these activities.

I really loved using this resource with the children I tutor. I will also incorporate it into my classroom this year.
